What is a scale? Several notes arranged in a specific order of intervals, from its tonic root (central note) to its octave.  
What is a diatonic scale? A scale that contains all seven notes of the musical alphabet.  
What is the intervallic formula? Order of intervals.  
What is the open position? (think chord graph) Open strings and the first three frets.  
What is the key? The letter name of the tonic, or root.  
What is a key signature? A series of sharps or flats (placed after the treble clef) that indicates notes that are to be raised or lowered throughout a piece of music.  
What does relative mean? (in music) Relative means that two scales share the same notes.  
What is the scale formula for the major scale? 1-2-3-4-5-6-7 These numbers correspond to the seven scale steps that make up the major scale. (The number 8 isn't included because it is simply the octave, where the scale starts over again)  
Any major scale can be converted to a minor scale by lowering _, _, and _ degrees by a half step. 3rd, 6th, and 7th
